Expert Preparation for Australian School Assessments

Why Regular Revision Is More Effective Than Last-Minute Study

Regular revision can make study more manageable than trying to learn everything just before a test. For Australian students, revisiting schoolwork throughout the term creates opportunities to identify gaps early, practise difficult skills and build familiarity with key concepts.

Last-minute study often encourages students to focus on memorising information quickly. That approach can make it harder to recognise what they genuinely understand and what still needs practice. Regular revision, by contrast, gives students time to review notes, complete practice questions and return to challenging topics.

A simple revision routine does not need to mean hours of study every night. Students can schedule short sessions across the week, focusing on one subject, topic or skill at a time. For example, a student preparing for a numeracy assessment might review one problem type, check mistakes and then revisit similar questions later.

Parents can support this process by helping children establish a realistic routine rather than waiting for exam pressure to build. A calendar, weekly checklist or quiet study period can make revision easier to maintain.

The key is consistency. Regular revision turns preparation into an ongoing habit, giving students more opportunities to practise, reflect and improve before assessment day.
